The Child Beneath the Pool Cover — story

The atmosphere at the estate shifts from tranquil to terror in a heartbeat. Black Marcus finds his afternoon interrupted by a sound that chills him to the bone: muffled, desperate cries for help emanating from beneath the heavy, enclosed pool cover. The silence of the property is shattered by the realization that someone is trapped in the dark, suffocating space just below the surface, struggling against the weight of the water and the thick, impenetrable barrier.

As he rushes toward the source of the distress, Marcus is met with immediate, fierce hostility. The boy’s father and grandmother confront him, their panic manifesting as blind suspicion. They mistake his urgent intervention for a malicious intrusion, blocking his path and forcing him to fight through their interference even as the cries grow fainter.

The tension is suffocating; every second wasted in this confrontation brings the child closer to a point of no return. With the family’s frantic misunderstanding threatening to derail the only chance at salvation, Marcus must force them to see the truth before it is too late. The stakes could not be higher as he battles both the physical obstruction of the pool cover and the desperate, misguided resistance of the people who love the missing boy most.
